GOVERNMENT RESPOND TO NOISE CONTROL PETITION - GOOD NEWS!

You might remember the fuss that was caused around a month ago when it was alleged that the Government were going to introduce sound control devices as a legal requirement in entertainmment venues - and music lovers around the country panicked at the thought of no more heavy bass, no more wailing guitar solos, and no more bangin' beats!

An official petition was set up on the 10 Downing St website and it was signed by 86,493 people. The government today responded to the petition with the following message:

"We are pleased to tell you that there is no truth in claims that the Government is planning to introduce a requirement for entertainment venues to fit noise control devices. Each Local Authority Licensing Authority considers every live music application on its merits, and decisions are made entirely by them. However, the Licensing Act 2003 does not allow mandatory conditions for live music to be imposed across the board. It would not be possible to impose such a condition without a change in the law and such a change is not, and never has been, on the Government’s agenda. There is also no legal requirement under health and safety legislation for entertainment venues to have noise control devices fitted, nor is there any proposal. The Government is acutely aware of the contribution that music makes to our culture and we remain committed to a vibrant and flourishing creative sector, of which live music plays an essential part."

KASABIAN ANNOUNCED AS FIRST EDEN SESSIONS HEADLINER OF 2009

We’re already waiting excitedly to hear their new album (due to be released on 1 June) so when this news popped up this morning we almost choked on our weetabix.
Kasabian have just been announced as the first band to play the Eden Sessions later in the year, and they’ll be rocking the world famous Eden Project stage on 4 July. Their last album, Empire, went to number one in the charts when it was released in August 2006 and the band saw off fellow rockers Muse and Arctic Monkeys to win Best Live Act at the NME Awards so this gig is going to be super hot.

The fantastic Eden Sessions take place in the beautiful setting of the Eden Project, near St Austell, and over the last eight years the Sessions have included performances from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Vampire Weekend, The Verve, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, Muse, Basement Jaxx, Editors and Goldfrapp. The 2009 Sessions look set to be some of the best ever, with the mighty Oasis already confirmed to play a rescheduled gig just ten days after Kasabian on 14 July.

Due to bad weather and circumstances beyond our control, the Awards event has been postponed.

We have just been informed (at 4pm today) that the Lemon Grove in Exeter where we were due to be hosting the SW DNB Awards event has been shut down by the University due to the adverse weather conditions we have been experiencing throughout today and that are forecast for tonight.

We are currently working on re-scheduling the event to take place in the next couple of weeks and will release more information as soon as we have it. We apologise for any problems caused by this and hope that you can join us at the rescheduled event.

ZANE LOWE IS KERNOW BOUND

Excitable Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe is heading to Falmouth on 7 March to play a gig at The Stannary. The legendary DJ is probably best known for his devotion to finding and promoting new music, and is often an integral part of building the careers of new musicians, featuring the likes of Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys on his "Fresh Meat" feature on Radio 1. OVER 1000 VOTES CAST SO FAR IN DRUM AND BASS AWARDS

Over 1,000 votes have already been cast in the 3rd annual South West Drum and Bass Awards, sponsored by 247 Magazine and due to take place at The Lemon Grove, Exeter on Friday, February 6th. Voting commenced in mid December and the increased interest this year has taken organisers by surprise. Nigel Muntz, promoter said: “We always knew the awards were popular but this year it seems there is more interest than ever before”. He added, “Incorporating the new South West Breakbeat Awards has generated a lot of extra interest too”.

The event is designed to reward the best promoters, DJ’s, MC’s and producers in the South West scene that often get overlooked at the National Drum and Bass Awards each year. The awards are compiled from votes from people that listen to the music and attend the different nights across the region week in, week out, so it truly represents what Drum and Bass and Breakbeat fans think is currently the best in the South West.

Last year’s winners, which included Plymouth’s Bigga Records (Best Record Shop), Truro’s DJ Klimax (Best DJ) and Exeter promoters, Rinseout (Best club night) are all defending their titles and voting closes at midnight on Sat 31st January.

We first heard singer songwriter Karima Francis when we were wandering past one of the small live music tents at Glastonbury - her raw, passionate vocals actually made us stop and investigate, and we thought she was fantastic. The Manchester based 21 year old singer has been compared to Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading but she's got a unique sound and a wonderful talent for writing songs.

THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT CANCELLED

Hotly tipped Californian rockers The Airborne Toxic Event were due to play a show at The Sandsifter in Cornwall later this month, but it has just been announced that the show has had to be cancelled due to circumstances outside of the promoters control. The band are set to have a rip roaring 2009 and have already received a shower of critical acclaim. Have a listen at www.myspace.com/theairbornetoxicevent and if you like it enough you might be able to catch them somewhere else in the UK before they head home to the States.

NEWTON FAULKNER RESCHEDULES TOUR

Multi-platinum selling guitar fiddling maestro Newton Faulkner has had to postpone his January/February UK tour due to an injury sustained whilst he was on holiday. He fractured his wrist, and has been ordered by doctors not to perform. The tour will now take place in May 2009, kicking off at Carnglaze Caverns in Liskeard on 29th. The shows will offer a stripped back, acoustic version of his massive album, 'Hand Built By Robots' in an intimate setting, as well as brand new material from his second album which is due for release this summer.

DREAM OF BEING A STAR? AUDITION FOR TORBAY ACTING FACTORY THIS SATURDAY

Hit the spotlight and raise the curtains – the Torbay Acting Factory is on the look-out for some budding new talent. The Torbay Acting Factory (TAF) was started by Torbay Council in 1996 and seems to be the place to be for theatrical experience, knowledge and fun. It now has more than 150 members and is always looking out for new talent who are willing to step into the spotlight.

Alan Davies, Service Manager for Theatres, Art and Events, said: "TAF offers the opportunity to sing, dance and act and has produced some excellent shows and performers over the years. TAF is a great way of bringing together talented youngsters from across the Bay and providing them with the opportunity to gain some valuable experience."

TAF will be holding open auditions on Saturday 10 Jan 2009 for young people aged 6-18 years. The auditions will be held at The Palace Theatre, Palace Ave, Paignton, for more information on times please look up the website. The workshops are free, just turn up, no need to book.

RED STRIPE MUSIC AWARDS AT EXETER PHOENIX

For the third year running, the Red Stripe Music Award 09 is offering emerging bands the opportunity to grab the attention of the music industry. For the first time this year, Exeter Phoenix has been selected as a host venue for the first round of the South West leg of the tour on Friday 23 Jan 09. Shortlisted acts to play for the Red Stripe Music Award at Exeter Phoenix on the 23 Jan are Exeter's Drunk With Joy (pictured), Severe Zero (Barnstaple), Load.Click.Shoot (Barnstaple), The Quails (Teignmouth) and Letters to Leaders (Exeter).

With slots at three of the summer’s major festivals including The Great Escape guaranteed for the winner, The Red Stripe Music Award is described by many promoters as live music’s answer to the Mercury Music Prize.

The four-month regional gig series starts in January 2009, hitting over 25 of the country’s best loved live music venues. Open to bands playing any manner of music, utterly unbiased to trend or leaning, Red Stripe asks only that applicants are over 18 years old and perform original tracks with the heart and soul they deserve. Over 1,500 applicants are expected to apply for 2009, from which 150 bands will be selected to play at one of over 25 regional gigs. In April 2009, 20 bands will be shortlisted and considered by a board of A&R, music journalists and industry specialists – finally resting on 4 finalists who will play at The Kentish Town Forum in May and judged by a panel of four, previously made up of music big wigs including Elbow’s Guy Garvey and XFM’s John Kennedy.

RUARRI JOSEPH LAUNCHES NEW ALBUM

Cornish singer songwriter Ruarri Joseph is back with his eagerly anticipated second album, entitled Both Sides of the Coin. The album will be launched at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on 6 Feb 09 and heralds a return to form for the artist. Back in 2006, after he unexpectedly landed a major record deal with Atlantic, Ruarri shot into the limelight with a selection of songs originally recorded as demos at home. His album, Tales of Grime and Grit, gave him a couple of hit singles, a headline UK tour and slots on stages at Glastonbury, Bestival and Boardmasters.

But Ruarri's career stalled unexpectedly when the record company demanded more music in the same vein as the demos he had recorded so long ago - some songs had been written more than eight years before they made it into the public eye. Ruarri knew his writing had changed a lot since then. After struggling to write songs that weren't really right, he decided to leave Atlantic and work on songs he really believed in. A result of both the decision to try songwriting on his own terms and the fact that many of his close family had a turbulent start to the year, Both Sides Of The Coin really does look at both sides of life - both the sunny and the darker aspects.

With a busy few months of gigs and support slots with artists like Donavon Frankenreiter under his belt and attention and support from the likes of Rob Da Bank, Janice Long, and Dermot O Leary, it looks like 2009 is going to be a good year for Ruarri Joseph.

Simon Webbe, (ex-Blue boy band and I’m a celebrity contestant 2008) is fresh out of the Jungle and will be taking to the decks at Bristol’s very own Panache nightclub on Sat 20 Dec.

This will be his first DJ set coming out the Jungle which is also Panache’s Christmas party.

BREAKIN' CONVENTION: Get involved in an International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre

Calling all b-boys, hip hoppers, and street dancers! Breakin' Convention is an annual convention of all things hip hop that began in 2004. The festival showcases dance companies and artists from around the world, giving a passionate audience the unique opportunity to witness the incredible diversity of Hip Hop Dance Theatre. There is also a focus on education, with a comprehensive workshop programme led by artists from around the world; graff commissions; graff jams; DJ demos and freestyling; film screenings and lecture demonstrations. From 22 - 23 May 2009, every corner of the Theatre Royal in Plymouth will be taken over by graff artists, DJs, MCs, freestylers, and break dancers.

Three top international hip hop acts will also perform at The Theatre Royal as part of the festival, which tours round a select few venues in the UK, Plymouth being the only city in the South West of the UK where the tour stops. Acts on the tour include VII Gems Rock Dance Division which will feature an exclusive UK performance from "the epitome of the b-boy" and hip hop dance pioneer Ken Swift. French artist Salah brings his crowd-pleasing mix of hip hop dance, mime and clowning to the stage too, and b-boy crew Myosung come all the way from South Korea (the best b-boying nation in the world) to take part.

As well as being a super hip event showcasing all this international talent, there's also a chance for local people to get involved, and submissions are now open for local and regional acts to perform on the Theatre Royal Stage! If you think you have something interesting to say through your work then you could be performing at Breakin' Convention. If you use hip hop or funk style dance techniques in exciting new ways, then get in touch with the team and you could be taking to the stage as part of the festival. Dance Academy pair lose appeal

The Plymouth two who were jailed for permitting drug dealing at the Dance Academy, Plymouth have lost the first round of their appeal. Tom Costelloe and Manoucehr Bahmanzadeh claimed their trial in July was unfair and they said undercover police officers should not have been allowed to testify anonymously from behind a screen.

Cornwall's top club promoter and DJ, Mastervibe is moving to Oz at the end of November. Otherwise know as Darren Bason, he has been living in Newquay for far too many years and been responsible for numerous club events across Cornwall and beyond, from the rave days in the late eighties right through to present day. He is an accomplished D'n'B DJ, playing at numerous national events such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Randon Concept, Innovation to name a few and the promoter of the South West Drum and Bass Awards. Outside of the dance scene, he is also the current National Surf Kayak Champion and ex Surf Kayak World Champion - now ranked 2nd!
He will be missed by all who knows/works and DJs along side him but is hosting a special free leaving party at the Red Square, Newquay on Fri 21st November. He will be exclusivly playing his last ever UK set, supported on the night by DJs; Re-Defeat,Grudge,F.i.b.u.a,Chazza & Corp.

If you are thinking of going to college to study an arts based subject, listen up! Plymouth College of Art and Design are hosting an Open Day next Wednesday (19 Nov), where potential students can come along to ask questions, check out the facilities and find out more about the course they’re thinking of doing. This is a great opportunity for you to see the range of courses available, from photography to graphic design, and fashion to printmaking – there’s something for all you creative types. It’s also a chance to find out more about career opportunities, and members of staff and current students will be on hand to answer any queries you might have. And there’s always loads of fantastic work from PCAD students displayed around the College so you’ll get to see proof that the courses are as good as they say…

You can also pick up valuable portfolio advice from those in the know, and there will be talks, presentations and workshops being held throughout the day, which runs from 3pm – 7pm.

For those who cannot make this Open Day, there will be another opportunity to visit the College early next year on 24 Jan.

CUBAN BROTHERS & SANDSIFTER x RIP CURL = MOVEMBER MADNESS

As you'll already know, November is now, and forever will be, known as Movember. It's all about growing your mo' - that is, your moustache, to raise money for The Prostate Cancer Charity. Movember began in Australia five years ago, when a group of friends decided they wanted to bring the moustache back into fashion and raise a bit of cash for charidee at the same time. Mo fever took Australia by storm, and has since spread to the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Spain, launching in the UK for the first time last year. Mo bros, with the support of Mo sistas across the world, have raised over £11 million for mens health issues in just five years.

And now, the moustachioed army march down to Cornwall for the very first Rip Curl Movember Sessions at the Sandsifter, Godrevy. Taking place on 29 Movember, the event will include a fancy dress surf competition, for which all contestants must have a moustache. The comp will be in a lucky dip format, and boards will be provided by Down The Line surf shop. A ping pong competition will add to the fun on dry land, with local DJs spinning the tunes, and in the evening, the Gala Party will be hosted by those fun loving moustache wearing Cuban Brothers! Come along dressed to suit your mo - whether you're going for a handlebar or a Magnum, make sure the rest of your clobber fits in!

Carling Academy becomes O2 Academy

Mobile operator O2 will be the new sponsor of the Academy Music Group venues across the UK, ending its five-year relationship with Carling. The AMG venues, including the Bristol Academy will be renamed O2 Academy from January 1 2009 in a five-year £22.5m deal.

The deal will see O2 customers gain priority tickets to gigs at all the venues, which are majority owned by Live Nation with Metropolis Music and SJM Concerts, as well as other Live Nation events across the country.

The Telefonica-owned mobile operator will also have first option on exclusive live content from gigs and will work with artists to make it available for download on mobile handsets.

Carling has sponsored the AMG venues, which include Brixton Academy, Shepherd's Bush Empire and Birmingham Academy, since 2003. In November last year, it scrapped its sponsorship of the Reading and Leeds music festivals after nine years. Promoters Festival Republic, formerly known as Mean Fiddler, said the deal ended with mutual consent.

NEW IMPROVED SKATE PARK OPENS IN EXETER

Exhibition Fields Skate Park (also known as Arena) is set to reopen on Monday (10 Nov). Situated off Summer Lane, near Exeter Saracens Rugby Club, Arena is Exeter's second largest skate park. The reopening of the facility comes after a more exciting and extensive ramp system has been installed. This recent work builds on work done last year, when old ramps were replaced, and it means that all the ramps at the park are less than a year old, and are therefore expected to last eight to ten years. That's a lot of ollys. The new system was designed and installed by Tim Ruck, owner of the Boarding House skate shop in Exeter.

The ramps have been designed to serve a wide range of abilities in skating, blading and BMX-ing so there's something for everyone there. Make sure you check it out...

Exeter Phoenix Media Centre is now inviting applications for up to two projects from film-makers based in Devon. You can apply either as a team made up of a writer and director or as an individual writer and/or director. Live action films and documentaries can be a maximum of 15 minutes and animation can be a maximum of five minutes duration. Any genre will be considered, although we are looking for ideas which are suitable for a range of distribution platforms.

The British National Surf Championships kick off tomorrow at Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. The two day event has just been given the go ahead, as huge swell is predicted for the weekend. Surfers from across the country will descend on Fistral beach to compete in the prestigious competition, and with categories for Womens, Mens, Masters and Veterans, this is sure to be a showcase of top surfing talent. Contest director Anton Roberts said, ““We’re expecting a solid swell meaning ideal conditions for this prestigious contest. 9am Saturday will see the first heats in the water!” We’ll keep you posted on the results after the weekend.

Tom Costelloe appeal confirmed

Promoter / DJ Tom Costelloe's appeal against his conviction for allowing drugs to be sold in Plymouth's Dance Academy is to be heard on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October in the Court of Appeal.

We understand that the appeal will be heard as part of a parcel of cases affected by the 'Davis Points' - a new rule that witness statements given anonymously (like those given by the cops who participated in the Dance Academy trial) are no longer admissable as evidence. The Lord Chief Justice and a panel of judges may decide on a retrial, to quash his conviction, or not to do anything at all, in which case he will still able to appeal on other grounds. It's unlikely there will be a decision for a couple of weeks.

Truro based film production company o-region have a feast of spooky treats for you this Halloween with a thrilling evening of music and film at this month’s roughcut, their renowned short film evening. Taking place on 13 October at Miss Peapods in Penryn, the evening will feature a cocktail of video nasties and putrid punk rock! They’ve spent months trawling the dark recesses of the film world to bring you filth, gore, blood and guts from filmmakers all over the UK, with films from Anastasia Kirillova, Esther May Campbell, Ham Williams and Shelley Claxton. The cinematic highlight of the evening will be a world premiere of Fleapit, a horror double bill made especially for the event by o-region favourites Brett Harvey and Ian Bucknole. The Guillemots head to Cornwall

We are delighted to announce that the Guillemots will be bringing their 'Fishbone for a drink' tour to Cornwall this autumn, with not one, but two dates, firstly at the Carnglaze Caverns, Liskeard on the 19th November and Princess Pavilion, Falmouth 20th November.

Promoters, SW1 Productions said 'The band were looking for unusual venues to play on this tour, they'd already asked us about Princess Pavilion as they'd heard it had a bandstand, and they loved the idea of playing in a Cave!'

The Guillemots (which is the plural of the name of a group of seabirds, but most often meaning the Common Guillemot), first emerged in 2005 with a support slot on Rufus Wainwright's sell out UK tour. 2006 brought the release of their Mercury Prize nominated debut album 'Through the Windowpane', which narrowly lost out to The Artic Monkeys, but firmly established the band with much critical acclaim.

In March this year, the bands follow up album 'Red' charted at no.9 in the UK album charts, with hit single 'Get Over It' reaching no.20 in the same month.

No strangers to Cornwall, the Guillemots supported KT Tunstall at the Eden Sessions earlier this year and in 2007 supported Paolo Nutini at the Rip Curl Boardmasters.

But this will be their first headline show in the region and as you would expect from the band, will take on a slightly non traditional format... 'Fishbone for a drink' tour is in association with Future Shorts who are one of the leading and most innovative short film labels, who passionately believe in getting short films seen and creating a culture around the medium, Future Shorts is recognized by filmmakers, the industry and press alike as the cutting-edge short film label.

The format will be Future Shorts setting up a cinema screen to show short films with Guillemots providing an improvised live soundtrack as the first part of the show followed by a full Guillemots performance as the second part of the show. After tickets went on sale earlier than ever for Glasto 09, it looks like the success of this summer's festival is still ringing in people's ears as over half the tickets have already been sold. Which just goes to show what a bit of sunshine and a controversial booking can do for you!

Register online (or you can use your reg number from this year's festival if you ticked the "remember my details" box when you registered for Glasto 08) and buy tickets at www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk. This year for the very first time you can put down a £50 deposit to secure your ticket, paying the balance in February.

Dance music magazine Mixmag has just launched a campaign to highlight the cause of Dance Academy owner Manoucehr Bahmanzadeh and DJ Tom Costelloe who were jailed earlier this summer for allegedly allowing drug dealing to take place in the Dance Academy. We covered this story last month, but Mixmag have looked at it from a wider angle - read it here - and join the campaign.

Appeals have been lodged for both Manoucehr and Tom but they are likely to take take a long time to come back to court. We will be keeping you up to date with this as and when developments happen, but in the meantime, read the article and join the campaign to Free the Plymouth Two.

MOONLIGHT SURF'S UP THIS SATURDAY!

THE RED BULL MOONLIGHTER sessions will take place at Putsborough Beach, located at the far end of Woolacombe Bay in North Devon on 4 Oct. The surf session is all about good times – there’s no competition, just good swell (hopefully). Starting at 6.30pm, there will be a bar and music at around 8.30pm, then the party will move on to a local venue. With the Red Bull wigwam and “re-energising” lounge and a volleyball net for non-surfers to have a play, this should be a lovely relaxing evening for all involved!

BREAKING NEWS: WHITE NOISE FESTIVAL CANCELLED

White Label Music were due to present the first White Noise Music Festival in Newquay in early November, but have just announced that the festival has had to be cancelled. The three day festival of cutting edge electronic music was due to be held at Hendra Holiday Park from 7 – 9 Nov. Billed as a festival with no rain, no mud, (just anoraks!), the line up included a Jarvis Cocker/Jason Buckle DJ set, Damo Suzuki and The Nitewreckers feat Dave Ball. The festival looked like it might be an interesting one, but it seems that sadly, the hurdles presented to the organisers simply became too much to overcome.

Glastonbury Festival 2009 tickets on sale!

For the first time in Glastonbury Festival’s history, tickets will go on sale eight months before the event.

From this Sunday (October 5th), festival-goers will be able to reserve tickets for next year’s event for a £50 deposit – or buy their tickets outright.

There will also be no limits on the number of tickets you can buy or reserve - as long as each purchase (or deposit) is matched with valid registration numbers.

Michael Eavis says: "I'm pleased to point out that anyone intending to come to the Festival in 2009 won't be limited to one, two or even six tickets when the booking opens on October 5. Our only stipulation is that each ticket - bought or reserved - is matched to a valid registration number. This way we can ensure that tickets are going to genuine Festival-goers only. With your consent we will save your registration number so you won’t need to re-register for the next four years."

Says Michael Eavis: “After three years, I am now confident that we have developed the fairest ticketing operation available anywhere, and we are ready to go.

“With the new scheme, backed by the all-important registration process, everyone has an equal chance of getting a ticket. And most importantly, every ticket will be going to a genuine festival-goer direct.

“I’m also convinced that the £50 deposit will help a lot of people to spread the payment for their ticket over a much longer period.”

Next year’s Glastonbury runs for five full days - from Wednesday 24th June until Sunday 28th June 2009 – across 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset.

Many festival-goers have already registered their names for the 2009 event and will therefore have their all-important registration number. Anyone who hasn't registered will still be able to do so through www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk. Those without internet access can apply for a registration form (enclosing an SAE) to Glastonbury, PO Box 2445, Glasgow G40 9AG.

When the booking lines (0844 412 4635) and website (www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk) open for ticket sales at 9am on 5th October, all registered festival-goers will have two options. They can either buy a full weekend ticket at a price of £175 (plus a booking fee of £5), or alternatively, tickets can be reserved at a cost of £50 per ticket. NEW INDEPENDENT CINEMA OPENS IN PLYMOUTH

The Jill Craigie's cinema in the Roland Levinsky Building at the University of Plymouth opens it's doors this month, and to celebrate they are screening a number of silent films, presented with brand new soundtracks by a diverse selection of musicians.

These reinterpretations of classic films will include Buster Keaton’s 1925 masterpiece The General, Broken Blossoms, South and Battleship Potemkin.

Each screening promises to offer the audience something very rarely encountered in cinema and because each performance is either being performed live or specially curated for the event there'll exhibit that "had to be there" quality usually reserved for gigs or premiere's. South tells the story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ill fated journey to the Antarctic. Eisenstein’s dramatisation of the 1905 Battleship Potemkin uprising against oppressive officers was intended as a piece of propoganda, but became an influential piece of film making because of the director’s use of montage, the influence of which can be seen in modern cinema – from Coppola’s Apocalypse Now to De Palma’s Untouchables. The screening will be accompanied by a specially developed digitally reconfigured orchestral piece from composer Shostakovich.

With the fabulous Isaac Rentz flying in to Cornwall for the first time we knew that this video would be a lot of fun and once again very interesting with Isaac loving the thought of us Bugs running around with animals. Isaac is a video director from America who blew us away so much with the work he did on our last video for the "Lover" single that we had to work with the majestic maestro once again.

The main idea behind the video was to capture the ethereal feeling of the song "You've Changed" which some reviews have commented on as being our guilty pleasure, if this means that it is slightly poptastic and a whole lot of fun to play live then I agree.

We set out to a secret location somewhere on Bodmin Moor with a whole entourage of people (that got lost in one big long line of cars moving through the valley like a Jeff Jordan sea snake!) including The Toad, our much loved make up artist, also a massive horse that Rosie would soon be riding at crazy speeds chasing a quad with Isaac shaking over every country bump but somehow managing to control the biggest camera in the world.

We dressed like modern day Victorian style vixens (and dude!!) and used the amazing setting to create interesting back drops whilst we individually strutted our stuff and Plums attacked her drum kit with thousands of drums sticks to prove that she was the boss of the beats.

Overall the shooting for the video went unbelievably well with no problems and our timing could not have been more perfect, with the last shot consisting of a natural sunset falling behind the band playing covered in smoke and a final shot of a well worked Miss Rosie Vanier.

Newquay’s coolest club, The Koola celebrates it’s 10th birthday on Sat 26 Oct with breaks legend, Rennie Pilgrem (pictured) supported by the residents across two rooms. Expect a full on party and added extras, such as girls on roller skates, skating around the club tempting you with various jellied alcohol. Not sure how much skating will get done in a packed club though...

BREAKING NEWS: Oasis cancel Eden gig

OASIS were due to play their first ever gig in Cornwall next week, but it has just been announced that the band have had to postpone the date due to the injuries Noel sustained when he was attacked whilst performing onstage in Toronto recently.

The band's management confirmed this late this afternoon with the following statement: "Oasis are being forced to postpone three further shows as a result of the injuries Noel sustained when he was attacked on stage in Toronto. A CT scan has now revealed that Noel suffered three broken and dislodged ribs in the attack and he has been advised by his doctor that he will not be able to perform for at least another week.

"The three affected shows are the Eden Project, Cornwall on September 27, the Gloria Theatre, Cologne on September 29 and Bataclan, Paris on September 30. All three shows will be rescheduled and fans are advised to retain their tickets pending further announcements. The Oasis UK Arena Tour, beginning October 7, is going ahead as planned."

Peter Hampel, Eden's creative director, said: "We are sorry to hear that Noel's injuries mean that he will not be well enough for the band to perform on Saturday and we wish him a speedy recovery. We share fans' disappointment at the latest news. We are now talking to the band's management about rescheduling the concert."

Ticket holders are advised to keep their tickets and await further announcements.

Hardcore rockers ‘SCOOPMANGO’ are reforming for a one-off gig (their first in over two years), to headline this year’s 'No Reason End Of Season Party' which will be held on Saturday 27th September 2008 in a marquee at Cligga Head in Perranporth.

If you like your 'Rage Against The Machine' mixed up with your ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’, blended with a touch of ‘Jimi Hendrix’ and added to a dash of ‘Primus’ then don’t miss this.

Tickets are just £10, however all profits made will be going to local charities. With just 500 available they’re bound to sell out fast!

Other bands include ‘Tongue & Groove’, ‘Ricks Rebels’, ‘Seed’ plus more to be announced. There will also be DJ's, bars and catering, with the main bar serving all the usual beverages, and a separate bottle bar to keep queues to a minimum. Fancy dress is encouraged but not essential. The more outrageous the better!

There will be taxis available to ferry you to and from the site from outside The Deck in Perranporth for just £1 each way.

Doors open at 6pm, bands from 8pm to 1am, doors close at 2am.

A series of free gigs have been announced to showcase the fresh new talent of young musician Max Tuohy. Tuohy (pronounced two-e) has recently been signed to Ugly Truth Records, the home of Newton Faulkner. Since Faulkner’s initial success seems to have been linked to the fanbase he built up by doing intimate gigs around Cornwall, record company bosses have recognised the area as a good “testing ground” for new acts. Ugly Truth spokesman James Roberts said, “Audiences in Cornwall are always willing to listen to new artists and do not seem to be swayed by trends or music critics, they make up their own minds!”

Max has been described as “a young beatboxing Jack Johnson with the soulful voice of David Gray” and has also been pegged as “one to watch” for 2009, so catch him while you can for free at the below dates next week.

OASIS PLAY EXCLUSIVE EDEN GIG!

Oasis are set to play an exclusive show at The Eden Project in Cornwall on 27 September. The band are currently preparing for their sold out UK tour, which kicks off this autumn. The Eden gig is the first time they’ve played in Cornwall (and they haven’t played in the UK since Feb 06), and will be filmed for global broadcast by MTV. Tickets will be available to buy through a raffle system – fans will have to register on oasisinet.com to enter a draw to win the chance to buy up to two tickets to this exclusive (and very exciting!) gig. Registration opened at midday on 29 August, and closes at midday on 5 September. Successful applicants will be notified on 8 September and will have four days to buy their tickets. FISTRAL GEARS UP FOR QUIKSILVER SKINS CONTEST

Newquay has barely had time to recover from the Rip Curl Boardmasters at the start of this month before another surfing giant hits Fistral Beach with a hot new surf contest. Organised with the British Surfing Association and inspired by Spencer Hargraves of the Quiksilver Surf School, Newquay, the Quiksilver Skins competition lands at Fistral on the August Bank Holiday weekend. With a prize purse of £700 and a classic Gibson guitar up for grabs, the competition’s fresh format will see 32 surfers compete one on one until there’s only one man standing. Some of the UK’s best pro’s are already signed up to what will be a lighthearted yet highly competitive contest. Fistral Beach will be bustling with other stuff too including St Tropez Beach Tanning Cabanas (for that healthy surfer glow!) and The Gibson Guitar Tour Bus (with impromptu gigs tipped for the whole weekend – keep a close watch!). UK Roxy surfers Sophie Hellyer, Candice O'Donnell, Holly Donnelly & Amy May Garvey will also be on hand scouting for female surfing talent throughout the event, and giving demos. BEACH BREAK LIVE DOCUMENTARY on BBC3 TOMORROW

Beach Break Live is a fab little festy based in Polzeath that celebrated it's second year this summer. Aimed at the lucky breed of human called the Student, Beach Break is a boutique (that means fairly small) festival that takes place in a beautiful clifftop location at Carruan Farm in Polzeath, Cornwall. Taking place in June, this year's festival saw The Wombats, Mr Scruff, Scratch Perverts, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong and lots more take to the stage...

Fuelled by an eco-friendly and festival-loving team who set out to take everything they loved about festivals and bring it together in one student-and-environment-friendly event, their search for funds to make their dreams a reality even took them as far as the BBC's Dragons Den, where they managed to impress the panel with their idea, which is no mean feat. Rejecting cash from the Dragons in favour of teaming up with Outgoing Travel, the festival has gone on to be hugely successful and as a result was filmed this year for a BBC3 documentary, which will be aired on BBC3 tomorrow night (19 August) at 9pm. Did you go? Did you wave at the camera?! Then you might be on telly tomorrow night! Fab!

The very first Exe Fest this Sunday!

The very first Exe Fest takes place this weekend at Exmouth Rugby Club. On Sunday from 12noon - 9pm, a mix of quality DJs and live acts from around the South West will perform everything from electro to reggae, hip hop to acoustic, and indie rock to drum and bass. The lineup includes legendary breaks and electro outfit Ben and Lex, four-piece “indie jukebox” Terrible Strangers, and the fat beats of Exeter’s finest skankmeisters Dib Dub Soundsystem.

A great variety of other entertainments will also be on offer, including a 96x8ft graffiti wall that will be “constructively vandalised” throughout the day. With break dance demos, tasty hot food, a bar, original art and t-shirts to buy, this is one funky mini-fest!

Tickets are available in OnionHeart (Exmouth) and Reform Records (Exeter). They are a steal at £5 for adults and £3 for kids, although there are a limited number available so don’t hang around.
